Green Day started in the mid 1980s as Sweet Children featuring Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt. In 1989, they changed their name to Green Day, inspired by the song they wrote about smoking pot at the Berkeley docks. The drummer was Al Sobordonet, later being replaced by Tre Cool, after leaving the Lookouts with Kain and Lawrence Livermore, the owner of Lookout! at the time. Green Day has developed a lot since then, not changing, but maturing. Most people know Green Day for songs like Basket Case, Brain Stew, or Minority.
If you want to know alot about the old Green Day, click here. It has alot of info about the sweet children EP, their other old records, and about the band before the signed to reprise.
On Green Day's album 'Insomniac' the song '86' is a reference to gilman not allowing them to return.
Also, if you mix up the words Green Day, you can spell Gay Nerd.. hehe.
Bassist Mike Pritchard(aka Dirnt) has played with Screeching Weasel, Squirtgun, and various other bands.
The drummer's name was Al Sobrante! Geez!
