O.K., I'll start in the beginning...
P.T.L. formed in 1986 with Stinky Rich on vocals, Dean Carrico on drums, Brian Snapp on bass and Sean Denton on guitar. None of us knew how to play but our passion and hair-do's were great, making up for what we lacked musically. Things never came easy for us though....
We started the band just as all of the "classic" S.J. bands were calling it quits. I remember them looking down at us and acting as if we missed the punk rock boat or something. To them, punk was dead in San Jose, and they were probally right. We were the ones who saved it and brought it back to life. We survived the Great Cross-Over of the LATE 80'S. Then came the 90'S with Grunge and the Rave Scene. Things got all messed up and by 1994 we'd lost most of our audience. GREEN DAY and RANCID ruled what was left of the mighty punk rock world....so we quit.
We originally were called CLARENCE THE LOST CAUSE VIOLENT RELIGIOUS BULL (a combination of our other bands names) After practicing for a couple weeks we switched guitarists and changed our name to PTL. After another guitar change we finally were ready to go. We played our first show in 1987 at this skinhead party with Pat Healy on guitar, Brian on bass, Rich on vocals and Dean on drums. They didn't beat us up. We kept this lineup until 1989/90. Pat left and married Kimbal from the SPITMUFFINS and we got Rob (KRUPTED PEASANT FARMERZ) to fill in. After a few years Rob left and we got Michelle (RED ..9) to play guitar. By this time we released a 7" and were on some decent comps so we went on tour. We made it to Colorado but in doing so we destroyed the band. When we arrived back in San Jose 3 weeks later we were a two piece. Dean and I tried to keep it going by getting Rob back in the band. Greg (NAKED AGGRESSION) and Buffallo Ben (MANIC DEPRESSION) took over the bass duties but the times had changed and the world was over PREACHERS THAT LIE.
We did a reunion show at Gilman St. in 2000 and at the Blank Club in 2005. We almost sold out the Blank Club when we played. Maybe the world is ready for PTL again? Maybe not. I'll let you know.
~Stinky Rich
